Working with artists in public open spaces.
I have a background in community development. As I began to look into becoming a public artists, I realized that people living in small neighborhoods or communities often volunteered time to find, hire, and lead art projects. So if you are a grassroots leader navigating a first-time or one-time project, here are the basic steps you will need to walk through to keep your project moving forward.
1) Identify and Secure the Site
2) Select an Artist and a Meaningful Design
3) Fundraising and Final Permissions
4) Installation and Dedication
5) Ongoing Marketing and Tourism
No matter how simple the process might seem, it still takes time, collaboration, communication, and perhaps even grit to transform a blank (or abandoned) space into a thoughtful work of art. Feel free to connect with me if you want to take a deeper dive into a worthy project.
